What is new this spring? Aerial Yoga
Yes! A few friends and I are bringing Aerial Yoga to Gwinnett.
What is Aerial Yoga?
Aerial yoga, also called anti-gravity yoga, combines traditional yoga poses, Pilates, and dance with the use of a hammock. The hammock acts like a swing or soft trapeze, supporting the hips for yoga postures which some may find difficult to do on the ground. Using the hammock also can add variety and fun to your workout.
Why do it?
As with any exercise, aerial yoga is going to get your heart pumping and muscles working to burn calories and give you the physique you’re wanting. But it also provides a freedom other exercises can’t. Floating weightless gives you the flexibility to make the workout as challenging or relaxing as you want it to be. Getting off of your joints allows for a deeper stretching. Plus, you can experience all of the added benefits of inversions!
When not to do it?
While I would love to say that Aerial Yoga is for everybody, I cannot. If you currently suffer from the following conditions you may not be able to practice Aerial Yoga.
Recent surgery of any sort
Very high or low blood pressure
Osteoporosis or any bone weakness
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Botox within the last 24 hrs.
As with any new exercise, you should consult a physician if there is any question whether you are healthy enough to participate.
